KNOW all men by these Presents that we RICHARD THOMAS
the Younger of the parish of Stithians in the County of
Cornwall Butcher and RICHARD THOMAS of the same and the
Father Both are held and firmly bound to JOHN TREZISE
and JOHN LAVIN Churchwardens and JOSEPH KNIGHT and PETER
DIGORY Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Saint
Clements in the County aforesaid in the full sum of
Fifty Pounds of Lawfull Money of Great Britain to be
paid to them the said Churchwardens and Overseers or
their successors for which payment well and truly to be
made we bind ourselves and each and every of us our and
each and every of our Heirs Executors and Administrators
jointly and severally firmly by these Presents Sealed
with our Seals and Dated the thirty first Day of January
in the Twenty Fifth year of the Reign of our Sovereign
Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great
Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith
and so forth and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand
Seven Hundred and Eighty six
The Condition of the above Written obligation is such
that Whereas ANN PEARCE of the said Parish of Saint
Clements Singlewoman before one of his Majesty’s
Justices of the Peace for the said County of Cornwall
hath sworn that she is with child of one or more Child
or Children and that such Child or Children is or are
likely to be Born a Bastard or Bastards and likely to
become Chargeable to the said parish of Saint Clements
and that the above Bounden RICHARD THOMAS the Younger is
the Father of such Children she now goeth with IF
therefore the said RICHARD THOMAS the Younger and
RICHARD THOMAS his Father or either of them their or
either of their Heirs Executors or Administrators do and
shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully
and clearly save harmless and keep indemnified the said
Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the Parish of
Saint Clements aforesaid and their Successors for the
time being and every of them, as also all the
Inhabitants and Parishioners of the said Parish of Saint
Clements which now are or hereafter shall be for the
time being and every of them of and from all and all
manner of expenses Damages costs and Charges whatsoever
which shall or may at any time or times hereafter arise
happen come grow or be imposed upon them for or by
Reason or means of the Birth Maintenance and Education
of the said Bastard Child or Children and of and from
all other charges Damages, Suits, Troubles and Demands
whatsoever touching or concerning the same Then this
Obligation shall be Void and of none effect otherwise to
be and remain in full force and Virtue.
