Know all Men by these Presents that I JOSEPH BEARD of the Parish of Saint Clements in the County of Cornwall yeoman am held and firmly bound unto ALEXANDER ALLEN Esquire and JOHN LAVVEN Churchwardens and WILLIAM BATE RICHARD BRAY and HENRY TREWOOLA Overseers of the poor of the said parish of St. Clements in Trust for the parishioners of the said parish in the sum of One Hundred Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor or their certain Attorney their Executors Administrators Successors or Assigns to which Payment well and truly to be made I bind myself my Heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by these Presents Sealed with my Seal and dated this fourteenth day of April One thousand Seven hundred and ninety four.
 
Whereas SARAH LAWRANCE of the said Parish of Saint Clements Singlewoman hath sworn before RALPH ALLEN DANIELL Esquire one of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County the fourteenth day of April instant that she is now with Child or Children which is or are likely to become chargeable to the said Parish of St. Clements and that the above bounden JOSEPH BEARD is the Father thereof.
 
NOW the Condition of this Obligation is such that if the above bounden JOSEPH BEARD his Heirs Executors or Admors or any or either of them do and shall from Time to Time and at all Times hereafter fully and clearly acquit free and discharge or well and sufficiently save and keep harmless and indemnified the above named Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish aforesaid and their Successors for the Time being and every of them as also all and singular the Inhabitants and Parishioners of the said Parish of St. Clements which now are or hereafter shall be for the Time being and every of them of and from all manner of Expences Damages Costs and Charges whatsoever which shall or may at any Time or Times hereafter arise grow or become due or be imposed upon them or either or any of them for or by reason or means of the said SARAH LAWRANCE being with Child or Children as aforesaid or for or by reason of the Birth maintenance Education and bringing up of such Child or Children that she the said SARAH LAWRANCE now is pregnant with and shall or may be delivered of and of and from all other Actions Suits Troubles Charges Damages and Demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same, Then this Obligation to be void otherwise to remain And be in full force.
