Know all men by these Presents that I THOMAS BARRET of the Borough of Truro in the County of Cornwall Cordwainder am held and firmly bound unto EDWARD GIDDY and JOHN PARKYN Churchwardens and JOHN LAVIN Overseer of the poor of the parish of St. Clements in the County of Cornwall and their Successors in the sum of Twenty Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain for which payment well and faithfully to be made I bind myself my Heirs Executors and Administrators and every of them firmly by these Presents. Sealed with my Seal Dated the Twenty eighth day of October in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven Hundred and Eighty one.

Whereas JANE HEAD of the said parish of St. Clements singlewoman in her Voluntary Examination taken on Oath before HENRY ROSEWARNE Esqr. one of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace of and for the said County on the 27th day of this Instant October saith that she is with child and that the said Child is likely to be born a Bastard and become chargeable to the parish of St. Clements aforesaid And WILLIAM BARRET of the Borough of Truro aforesaid Cordwainder is the Father of the said Child

NOW the Condition of this Obligation is such that if the above bounden THOMAS BARRET do and shall within five Days after the Birth of the Child or Children of which the said JANE HEAD is now pregnant bring or cause to be brought the Body of the said WILLIAM BARRET (if living) Before some or one of his Majestys Justices of and within the said County then and there to abide by & obey such Order and Orders as shall be made by such Justices for the payment of all sum and sums of money that shall be disbursed on account of the Birth and maintenance of such child or children born as aforesaid Or if the said THOMAS BARRET shall not bring the Body of the said Wm. BARRET (if living) That then he the said THOMAS BARRET shall ?---- or may ?----- and or into a Bond to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the parish of St. Clements aforesaid in the penal sum of Twenty Pounds to indemnify them against the payment of all such sums of money which they or either of them shall disburse on account of the Birth and maintenance of such Child or Children to be born as aforesaid Then this Obligation to be void and otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
