Know all men by these presents that we JAMES SIMS of the parish of Budock in the County of Cornwall Mariner & WILLIAM SIMS of St Clements in said County Yeoman are held and firmly bound unto MATTHEW ALLISON and SAMUEL TRESIDDER Churchwardens and JOHN DUNSTAN and FRANCIS GEACH Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Budock (in trust for the parishioners of the last mentioned parish) in the sum of forty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain, to be paid to the said MATTHEW ALLISON, SAMUEL TRESIDDER, JOHN DUNSTAN and FRANCIS GEACH or their certain Attorney, Executors, Administrators or Assigns, for which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each of us by himself for and in the whole, our and each and every of our Heirs, Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents, Sealed with our Seals dated the Eleventh day of June in the Nineteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and seventy nine.

The Condition of this Obligation is such That Whereas MARY RICHARDS of the parish of Budock aforesaid singlewoman in and by her voluntary examination lately taken in writing and upon oath before PHILIP ENOUF Esquire one of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said County did declare that she was then with child and that the said child was likely to be born a Bastard and to be chargeable to the said parish of Budock and that the above bounden James Sims was the father of such child & therefore the said JAMES SIMS and WILLIAM SIMS their Heirs, Executors, Administrators or some or one of them do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully freely and clearly Indemnify and save harmless as well the above named Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Budock and their successors for the time being and also all and singular the parishioners and inhabitants of the said parish of Budock which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being, of and from all manner of Costs, Taxes, Rates, Assessments and Charges whatsoever, for or by reason of the Birth, Education, and maintainance of the said Bastard Child & of & from all Actions, Suits, Troubles and other charges and demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same, that then this present Obligation to be void and of none effect, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
