Know all Men by these Presents that we JAMES MEDLIN of the parish of Budock in the County of Cornwall Labourer and JOHN MEDLIN the father of the said JAMES MEDLIN of the parish and County aforesaid Labourer are held and firmly bound unto SAMUEL TRESIDDER and MATTHEW ALLISON Churchwardens and JOHN ADAMS and PETER RENFREE Overseers of the poor of the parish of Budock and County aforesaid (In trust for the Parishioners of the said parish) in the sum of Forty pounds of good and Lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to the said Churchwardens and Overseers or their certain attorney their Executors Administrators or Assignes to which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each and every of us our and each and every of our Heirs Executors and Administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents Sealed with our seals and Dated the twenty second day of April In the Twenty fifth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third King of Great Britain and so forth And in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and eighty five

The Condition of the above written Obligation is such that whereas AVIS MEDLEN of Budock aforesaid Singlewoman hath in and by her Voluntary Examination taken in writing and upon Oath before THOMAS VYVYAN Esqr. one of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in ans for the said County of Cornwall declared that she is with Child of one or more Child or Children and that such child or Children is or are likely to be Born a Bastard or Bastards and to be chargeable to the said parish of Budock and that the above bounden JAMES MEDLEN is the father of such Child or Children If therefore the said JAMES MEDLEN and JOHN MEDLEN the father or either of them their or either of their Heirs Executors or Administrators do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and clearly indemnify and save harmless as well the above named Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said parish of Budock and their successors for the time being as also all and singular the other Parishioners and Inhabitants of the said parish of Budock which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being of and from all and all manner of Costs Taxes Rates Assessments and Charges whatsoever for or by reason or meanes of the Birth Education and maintainance of such Child or Children and of and from all Actions Suits troubles and other charges and demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same That Then this present Obligation to be void otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue
