Know all men by these Presents that we MICHAEL NICHOLLS the Younger of the Borough of Penryn in the County of Cornwall Yeoman and WILLIAM SOLOMON of the same Baker are held and firmly bound to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Parish of Budock in the said County in the full sum of Forty Pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid to the said Churchwardens and Overseers or their successors for which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and each and every of us our and each and every of our Heirs Exor’s and Admor’s jointly and severally firmly by these presents Sealed with our Seals and Dated the Seventh day of January in the Twenty sixth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and eighty six

The Condition of the above written Obligation is (such) that whereas JANE JOHNS of the said Parish of Budock Spinster hath declared that she is great with Child of one or more Child or Children and that such Child or Children is or are likely to be born a Bastard or Bastards and likely to become chargeable to the said Parish of Budock and that the above bounden MICHAEL NICHOLLS the Younger is the father of such Child or Children she now goeth with If Therefore the said MICHAEL NICHOLLS the Younger and WILLIAM SOLOMON or either of them their or either of their Heirs Executors or Administrators do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully and clearly save harmless and keep indemnified the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said Parish and all other the Inhabitants of the said Parish now and for the time being of and from all and all manner of Expenses Damages Costs and Charges whatsoever which shall or may at any time or times hereafter arise or happen come grow or be imposed upon them for or by reason or means of the Birth Maintenance and Education of the said Bastard Child or Children and of and from all other Actions Damages Suits Troubles and Demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same Then this obligation to be void and of none effect otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue.
