Settlement Paper for Joseph Nichols & Family, dated
12 April 1731
Cornub: To the Church-Wardens and Overseers of the
poore of the parish of St Breock in the said County and likewise to ye
Church-Wardens & Overseers of the poore of the parish of St Kew in the
same County & to every & either of them
Whereas Complaint hath been made unto us Francis Gregor and John Peter
Esquires two of His Majties. Justices of the peace for ye said County (Quor.
Unus) by ye Church-Wardens & Overseers of the poore of ye Parish of St
Kew that one Joseph Nichols & Honner his Wife & Elizabeth their Child
came lately to reside & are now resident in ye sd parish of St Kew they
or either of them not haveing acquired any Legall Settlemt there
according to the Laws in such cause made & provided, nor produced any
Certifficate or Certifficates owning & acknowledging him or them to be
legally Settled elsewhere. And further, the said Joseph Nichols & his
said Wife & Child are likely to become chargeable to ye said parish of
St Kew.
And Whereas by & upon the examination of ye said Joseph Nichols duely
taken on Oath before us this Day the said Complaint doth in every
particular appear unto us to be true; & upon such his examination We do
find your sd parish of St Breock to be the place of the last Legal
Settlemt of him the said Joseph Nichols and of his said Wife & Child. We
the said Justices of the peace do therefore adjudge the said Joseph
Nichols & his said Wife & Child to be last legally settled in the sd
parish of St Breock. And they are likely to become chargeable to ye sd
parish of St Kew unless removed from thence. These are therefore in his
Majties. Name to charge & commd you the Church-Wardens & Overseers of
the poore of the sd parish of St Kew, that you, some, or one of you do
forthwith remove & convey the sd Joseph Nichols & his sd Wife & Child
from your said parish of St Kew unto the sd parish of St Breock &
deliver them to the Church-Wardens & Overseers there or to some or one
of them Who are hereby required to receive & provide for them according
to Law as settled Inhabitants of their said parish of St Breock. And
hereof fail not at your perills. Given under out hands and seals at St
Columb-Major in the sd County this twelfth Day of Aprill Anno: Domi:
