Settlement Paper for Joseph Lewis, dated 25 May 1744
Cornwall T Witt. Wee whose names are here under
written Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the parish of Saint
Wenn in the County aforesaid do Certify that Joseph a base Child of Ann
Lewis Single woman is an Inhabitant Legally Settled in our said parish
of Saint Wenn and wee do hereby oblige our Selves and Successors to
receive the said Joseph Lewis when Ever he shall become Chargeable to
the parish of Saint Breock in the said County by Impotency Casualty or
Sickness or otherwise to which said parish of Saint Breock the said
Joseph Lewis is Removed for his better rearing Education and bringing up
In Witness whereof wee have hereunto sett our hands and Seals this five
and twentieth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven
hundred fourty and four 1744

We whose Names are hereunto subscribed being two of
his Maj’s Justices of the Peace of the said County do allow of this
Certificate, And do hereby certify that Francis Brenton and Theopilus
Harris witnesses who attested the Execution thereof hath made oath
before us that they Did see the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor
whose Names are hereunto subscribed and seals set severally sign and
seal the same Witness our hands this 19th day of September 1744
