Cornwall to Wit
At the Generall Quarter Sessions of the Peace of our
Lord the King held at Lostwithiell in & for the said
County the twelfth day of January in the fourteenth year
of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by
the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland
King Defender of the faith & so forth, and in the year
of our Lord 1774 before FRANCIS RODD Esq. HENRY HAWKINS
TREMAYNE EDWARD GIDDY Clerks, JOSHUA HOWELL Clerk,
WILLIAM PETER Esqr. JOHN BULLER Esqr. & others their
companions Justices of our said Lord the King assigned
to keep the peace in & for the said County and also to
hear & determine divers Felonyes Trespasses & other
misdemeanors committed within the said County
Upon the application of the Churchwardens and Overseers
of the Poor of the Parish of St. Breock in this County
for Relief concerning a Male Bastard Child born on the
Body of Jane Harvey single woman at St. Breock aforesaid
on or about the fifth Day of October last past which
bastard Child is now chargeable to the said parish of
St. Breock, and on Examination on Oath of her the said
JANE HARVEY, it appears to this Court and this Court
doth adjudge that JOHN ARNOLD the younger of the Parish
of Blisland Yeoman is the putative Father of the said
Bastard Child, and this Court doth Order that the said
JOHN ARNOLD do for the time to come on Monday in every
week for so long time as the said Bastard Child shall be
chargeable to the said parish of St. Breock pay or cause
to be paid unto the Churchwardens and Overseers of the
Poor of the said parish for the time being some or one
of them the sum of sixteen pence for and toward the
Relief of the said parish and Maintainance of the said
bastard Child, and this Court doth further order that
the said JANE HARVEY for and toward the further Relief
of the said parish and Maintainance of the Bastard Child
shall on Monday weekly and every week for so long time
as the said Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the
said parish and she shall not keep and nurture the said
child, pay or cause to be paid unto the Churchwardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the said parish for the
time being some or one of them the Sum of Eight Pence,
and the Court doth further order that the said JOHN
ARNOLD do on Notice of this Order given him forthwith
pay or cause to be paid unto the Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of St. Breock
some or one of them, the sum of Seven Pounds three
Shillings and six Pence for and toward the Expences
which they have been at in the lying in of her the said
JANE HARVEY and the Cloathing and Maintainance of the
said Bastard Child from its Birth to this Time.
