The Will of Thomas Mudge, dated 4 October 1823

This is the last will and testament of me Thomas
Mudge of the Borough of Bodmin in the County of Cornwall tanner. I give
and devise unto my son John his heirs and assigns forever all that house
and garden with the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging
called Northy’s situate in Back Street in the said Borough. Also I give
and divise unto my son James his heirs and assigns forever all that
messuage tenement and farm with the appurtenances and hereditaments
thereunto called Tregullen in the parish of Lanivet in the said County
now in my possession and the stock and corn and implements of husbandry
which may be on the same. Also I give and devise unto my son Henry his
heirs and assigns forever those 3 fields with barn and mowhay situate at
Cooksland in the said Borough and known by the name of Tredwens Tenement
. Also I give and devise unto my son John £500 Also I give and devise
unto my son William £100 Also I give and devise unto my son James £200
Also I give and devise unto my son Henry £500 I also give and devise
unto my daughter Eleanor the sum of £500 Also I give and devise unto my
daughter Elizabeth Billing the sum of £500 the said several pecuniary
legacies to be paid unto them severally or respectively attaining the
age of 21 years or having attained that age the said money to be paid in
twelve calendar months after my decease and interest at 5% for the same
(Thomas Mudge) Also I give unto my dear wife Grace Mudge and her assigns
during her natural life the several and respective legacies hereinafter
mentioned One annuity or yearly sum of £20 to be issuing and payable by
2 equal half yearly payments from and out of my Freehold lands and
Tenements hereinafter devised to my son Thomas Mudge And also one other
annuity of £5 issuing and payable out of my aforesaid Tenement devised
to my son James Mudge the first of those payments at 6 months after my
decease And I do hereby declare the annuities and legacy so given to be
in full recompense and bar of all dower that I am now or at my decease
may be seized And I do hereby declare that the said annuities and
legaciey to my said wife are upon the expense and condition that she
shall within the space of 6 months after my decease at her cost duly
execute and deliver an effectual release of all her dower in case my
said wife shall refuse to execute such release of her dower as aforesaid
then I take from the aforesaid sum of £100 I give it to my said son
James Mudge in addition to the aforesaid legacy given unto him Also I
give unto my said wife such of my household furniture as she shall
choose the same not to exceed the sum of £50 And as in the all rest and
residue and remainder of my real and personal estate whatsoever or
wheresoever I give devise and bequeath the same unto my son Thomas Mudge
his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever subject to the
payment of my just debts and proving this my last will I do hereby
direct that the rent issuing out of the messuage aforesaid and the
interest of the said legacy given to my son Henry before his use as may
be most suitable to his support And I do hereby revoke to make void all
former wills made by me heretofore (Thomas Mudge) made and do declare
this to be my last Will contained in three sheets of paper at the bottom
of each preceding sheet have set my hand and to this third and last
sheet my hand and seal this 4th day of Oct 1823 Thomas Mudge Signed sealed and declared by the Testator as and
