Lord Lovell

As Coleman & Williams was walking one day
Said Coleman to Williams now what do’e say
Shall we take the net down & draw the river right thro
And I don’t care a rap for Edyvean now do you
====
So they went down to Bestes and changed their clothes
And they looked liked Militia men as you may suppose
For they had on their Tunics & trowsers all green
And two greater frights there never was seen
====
Down the Hill they did go which was ever so steep
Little thinking at the bottom who they had to meet
When one of em said Aw! you frightened me so
And said to hisself why this es no go
====
A Bobby it was which he knocked up agin
Which accounted so well for the fright he was in
So the Bobby laid hold of im with all his might
And says – what be e about here this time of night
====
He satisfied Bobby or at least so he said
Ran so fast into Bodmin you’d have thought he was dead
Told the tale & put me in a deuce of a fright
By saying I must go by the river that night
====
Raleigh Gilbert & me we trudged off together
Not caring a deuce about wind or weather
We walked in the rain till we got to Nanstallon
Thinking all the way down that night we should hav’em
====
Disappointment befel us & we were both Sold
For Coleman & Williams were not quite so bold
But they kept us out that night & all next day too
And then we trudged home both soaking wet thr’o
====
Round the town the next day the Crier was sent
To tell all the folks what these Ruffians meant
To fish from Dunmear all the way to Polbrock
And put the net in the water about 10 o’clock
====
Bill Jago he listened to his Cousin the Crier
Says he to his self why that Man is a liar
For the 1st. thing we will do is the net we will grab
And not care for Billing nor Williams nor Crab
====
So they fished all the way till they came to the run
Where a small party met em expecting some fun
They fished the next pool which was called lucky pet
Says Bill Thomas now dam’me we must have the net
====
So he jumped into the water without more to do
Said by orders of Master here I take this net from you
So he took the net from them & but with little trouble
Excepting with Williams there would be a slight scuffle
====
Poor Williams was drowned or at least would have been so
If Colenso hadn’t jumped in & made old Bill leave go
He let go his hold & up the Bank crawled
With the net on his shoulder not looking much mauled
====
Raleigh and Jago were very much struck
Little thinking the old man had in him such pluck
So Williams he followed half drowned & aghast
Being so overpowered by the old man at last
====
There’s nothing more left now for me to say
But that the two parties left each bent on their way
The one went to Bodmin the other odzounds
Went back where they came from to beat Boro’ Bounds
