Will of Thomas Stephens, dated 4 November 1724

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Stephens of the parish of St Austell in the County of Cornwall
yeoman being of perfect mind and memory thanks be unto God and calling to mind the uncertain Estate
of this transitory life doe make and ordaine and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme
following Revoking hereby all former Wills and Testaments by me made either by word or in writing and
first being penitent and sorry for my sins past most humbly desiring forgiveness for the same, I give and
remitt my Soule unto Almighty God in whom by the Merritts of my Saviour Jesus Christ I trust and believe
assuredly to be saved and to have full remission of my sins, and my Body I comitt to Christian Buryall to
be decently interred. I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Temperance my best Bedd whereon I comonly
lodge with the Bedd stead & furniture to the same belonging, & also I give & devise unto my said wife twenty
pounds to be payed unto her one Month after my Death by my Executor hereafter named, Item I give and devise and
bequeath unto my sons Edward, Robert, Joseph and Benjamin ten pounds Apiece to be payed unto them
Severally at the End of One yeare after my death by my Exorr hereafter named, Item I give and bequeath unto my
youngest son John Stephens fifteen pounds to be also payed unto him One yeare after my death by my
executor, Item I give & bequeath unto my four Grand- children the children of my sons Thomas Stephens and Robert
Stephens
twenty shillings apeice to bee payed them or to their parents for their ............. Uses One yeare
After my death, I hereby give devise & bequeath unto my said Wife Temperance the sum of Six pounds
yearly & every year during her normall Life by four equall Quarterly payments every year from my death
free of all rates taxes & ............ whatsoever by my Exorr hereafter named, and I do hereby subject &
make lyable All my messuages, Lands and Tenems to the payment of the same, and I do charge my Exorr
to ............. the paymt of the same (Which he hath promised to doo) to the good liking of Mr Henry Hawkins
within One Month after my death, Item All the rest of my Goods and Chattells Lands & Tenems , rights
& Creditts not herein before given or bequeathed (my debts & Legacies being first payed) I give devise & bequeath
unto my First Son Thomas Stephens & him & this my last Will & Testament I nominate constitute & appoint
my whole & sole Executor, In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & Seale this fourth day
of November Anno Domini 1724
