Will of Thomas Stephens, dated 20 August 1740

The Will & Inventry. of the
Goods & So forth of one
Thomas Stephens lately
died proved in
Common form before the
Revd Mr William Waddon
Clerk Mr of Arts, Official
& so forth.
And admion of all & Singular
the Goods & soe forth of the
Said deced & of all things
Howsoever Concerning His
Said Wife was granted to
the Exors therein named
(being first in due form of
Law Sworne) & Saving &
Soe forth
In the Name of God Amen. I Thomas Stephens of the parish of Saint Austle
In the County of Cornwall Yeoman being in health and of a sound and perfect disposing mind and
memory and calling to Rememberance the uncertain Estate of this Mortall life and Knowing that it is appointed
for all ........... to Dye Do make and ordain and Constitute this my last will and Testament in mannor and form
following that is to say I first and principally I Recomend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hopeing
to Receive full pardon and free Remission for all my Sins past in and Through the Morrels and Mediation
of my blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my Body I committ unto the Earth to be buried in a
Christian and Decent mannor at the proper Cost and Charge of my Executor hereinafter named and
attouching all my Worldly Goods Chattles Rights Credits and Effects wherewith it hath pleased God to
bestow upon me far above my Deserts I do hereby give and Devise in manner and form following
 
First of all I doe hereby give and Devise unto my Daughter Elizabeth the wife of Thomas Clemoes of the parish
of Ladock in the County of Cornwall the sum of one shilling of Lawfull money of Great Brittain to be paid her
by my Executors herein afternamed Imediately after my Decease
Alsoe I doe hereby give and Devise unto my Daughter Jane the wife of Peter Body of the parish of saint
Stephens in Brannell in the said County of Cornwall Ten Pounds of Lawful Money of great Brittain to be paid
her by my Executors hereafter named at the End of Six Months next after my Decease
Alsoe I doe hereby give and Devise unto my Daughter in law Mary Stephens Widdow and Relict of my Son
Robert Stephens late of Saint Austle aforesaid Deceased the Sum of Ten shillings of Lawfull Money of
great Brittain to be paid her by my Executors hereinafter named and at the end of Six Months after my Decease
Alsoe All the Rest of my Goods Chattles Rights Credits and Effects not heretofore by me given and bequeathed
I doe hereby give and Devise unto my son Johnson Stephens and my son Jonathan Stephens to be equally
Divided and Shared between them and I doe hereby make ordain constitute and nominate them the said
Johnson Stephens and Jonathan Stephens my joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament in paying
proving and Discharging All my Debts Legacies and funeral Charges and I do hereby .......... or Declare
and it is the true Intent meaning of this my last will and Testament that if and in case my wife Prudence
Stephens
shall happen to Survive and outlive me that then she shall be allowed and provided for by my
said Executors with good and Sufficient Meat Drink washing Lodging ...ing attendance and ........
of all sorts both Linnon and Wollon fitting forever of her D......... During her Naturall life after my Decease
and I Doe hereby revoke Disanull and by these presents make voide all former and other Wills and
Testaments by me formerly made In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this
Twentieth Day of August in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and forty
