The Will of John Laws, dated 6 May 1746

In the Name of God Amen the sixth Day of May 1746 According to the Computation of the Church of England I John Laws of the pish of Alternon in the County of Cornwall Yeoman being of proper mind and Remembrance praised be to God do make and ordain this my last Will and testament in manner and forme following (Viz.) First I Bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker Hopeing that through the Meritourious Death and Passion of Jesus Christ my only saviour and Redeemer to receive free pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins and as for my Body to be buried in Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executor hereafter nominated. Then I give to my son John Laws Two Estates in Will Garden called Will Garden and Kenners and one Estate of Land lyeing in Bowithick Immadiately after my Decease. Then I give to my Daughter Eliz. Laws the sum of Six Pounds of Lawful Money to be paid her every year at quarterly payments during her natural life immediately after my decease out of Will Garden and Kenners. I then give to my Daughter Mary Laws the sum of One Hundred Pounds and to be paid her when she shall Accomplish the age of Sixteen. I then give to my wife Catherine Laws One Estate called Trevillian lyeing in Bowithick immediately after my decease. Then I do hereby Bind my son John Laws to pay the Hundred pounds to his sister Mary Laws out of Will Garden and Kenners and his Estate of Land in Bowithick. Then all the rest of my goods I give to my wife Catherine Laws and my son John Laws and do hereby Bind them to take care for my daughter Mary Laws and maintain her before she shall come to the age Sixteen at their own cost and charges and paying all my Debts and Legacyes and do make them my sole Executrix alike of this my last Will and testament Revoking all other Wills and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal the day and year abovewritten.

The abovewritten will was proved in Common Form the 28th April 1747 Before the Rev.Mr Wm Waddon Clerk Master of Arts Official etc and Admion of the Goods etc of the decd and of all things howsoever concerning the said Will was granted to the Exec. Therein named/ being first sworn etc./saveing etc.
