KNOW all men by these presents That we: ARTHUR HERRING of the parish of Altarnun in the County of Cornwall, Yeoman, WILLIAM HERRING and RICHARD HERRING of the same parish of Altarnon sons of the said RICHARD HERRING are held and firmly bound unto JOHN POPPLESTONE, RICHARD WATTS, RICHARD HEALE and THOMAS PETHICK, Yeomen Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the said Parish of Altarnun (In Trust for the parishioners of the said parish) Fifty Pounds of Lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid to the said JOHN POPPLESTONE, RICHARD WATTS, RICHARD HEALE and THOMAS PETHICK, or their certain Attorney, their executors or administrators or assigns For which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves and every and each of us jointly and severally and one and each and every of our Heirs, Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents Sealed with our seals Dated this Thirtieth day of July in the thirty-forth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second King of Great Britain and so forth and in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Sixty.

The Condition of the above Obligation is such that the above bounden Richard Herring the Father on or about the twenty second day of December last took into his Dwelling House within the said Parish of Altarnun a single woman who he then knew to be big with child, and then entertained supported and took care of her until she was delivered of a Female Bastard Child where it now is and remains and hath been since Baptized by the name of Geare Bastard and that the Child may not at any time hereafter become chargeable to the said Parish of Altarnun If therefore the said Richard Herring, William Herring and Richard Herring the younger or any or either of them, their or any or either of their Heirs, Executors or Administrators do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter fully clearly And absolutely indemnify for ever and save harmless as well the above-named Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said parish of Altarnon and their successors for the time being as also all and singular the other parishioners and inhabitants of the said parish of Altarnon which now are or hereafter shall be for the time being of and from all manner of cost, taxes, rates, assessments and charges whatsoever for or by reason of the birth Education or maintenance of the said child and of and from all actions suits troubles expenses and other charges And demands whatsoever touching or concerning the same That then this present obligation is to be void otherwise to stand and be in full force and virtue.
